John William Lawley

On the 23rd of May 1918 L/Sgt John William Lawley was killed in action in France age 36.

John was born in 1881 Ellastone, Derbys to John (occupation butcher) and Dorothy.
During the 1880’s the Lawley family moved into the Bagot Arms, which at that time was a pub and working farm. In 1902 John married Bertha Alice Warren and on the 1911 census they were living in Bagot Street with their five children.
On John’s enlistment papers (1915) he is living in Doveridge, Derbys, he served with the Royal Warwickshire Regt. number 34227.
