The Royal Oak Pub. Standing on the steps are Mr & Mrs Allred – landlords from 1913 – 1929. Previous to that, the pub was run by Arthur Lyons who married Eliza Ball nee Sharratt in 1873. Directories have Arthur as a Beer Retailer from 1876 – 1912. Census records in 1861 have the Sharratt family living there, occupation Farmers. 1871 census Mr Sharratt and family are still living there but now the occupation is Beer Retailer. No Trade Directory between 1876 – 1936 lists the name of the pub. During 1924 the croft behind the Royal Oak was sold by Buntings Brewery (owners of the pub) to the Institute Committee for the new building. The 1940 Trade Directory lists W.H. Bagnall as the landlord of the Royal Oak Public House. If you have any information relating to the pub, or photo’s to add to our collection, please get in touch.
