Private John Grimley

On the 11th of November 1918, Private John Grimley, who served with the Durham Light Infantry and a Prisoner of War in Germany lost his life to illness.

John was reported missing in June 1918 and it was a few weeks later before his mother Emma received a telegram to say he was safe, with the news of the Armistice she expected
him home for Christmas – sadly john was not to return home to No. 1 High Street. He was just 24 years old.
John is buried in the Cologne Southern Cemetery in Germany.
