John Harris

On the 26th March 1917, five days after receiving the news that Thomas Unwin (RFC) had passed away, the village received word that CQMS John Harris was missing in action in Eqypt.

John was born in Colton in 1895 to parents Thomas and Annie Teresa Harris. The family were farmers and on the 1901 census they had moved to Park Side Abbots Bromley. John joined the Herefordshire Regt in 1914 and in 1915 was posted overseas and promoted to CQMS.
He was reported missing officially on March 25th 1917 but it wasn’t until August 1918 the family were informed he was killed in action.
John’s name appears on Panel 54 Jerusalem Memorial Israel, his body was never found – he was nearly 23 years old.
