73 years ago on the 27th October, 1953 a Royal visitor came to Abbots Bromley. The village was decorated in flags for the Queen Mother who came to open Blithfield Reservoir. Plans to build the reservoir were in place in the 1930’s but due to the outbreak of WW2 this was shelved until the late 1940’s. At the opening, all the local children walked down to watch the ceremony, including the girls from St. Mary’s and St. Anne’s. After the ceremony the Queen Mother and her party went to Blithfield Hall to have lunch with Lord and Lady Bagot. Who remembers this day?
