Crofts

  • by

One 100 years ago this week a festival was held in the village by the School of St. Mary and St Anne to celebrate the new wing of ‘The Crofts’, which was to be known as the ‘West Wing’ in honour of Alderman and Mrs. F. J. West of Manchester, whose eldest daughter Winifred was a member of the house during her school time. Mr West acted as chairman of the parents Building Fund committee, appealing for funds for the new extension. Mr West was Knighted in 1936 for his work in Manchester. His daughter Kathleen also attended the school. The extension runs at a right angle from the west end of the original house.
