1939 – 1945. We believe these children are the evacuees from Manchester who came to the village. Unfortunately we don’t have the date they arrived or left or even who they stayed with, if anyone can help please let us know. Richard Clarke during this period worked on a rota system – village kids went to school in the morning and the evacuees attended in the afternoon, we understand this alternated week by week. We do wish we knew the names of these children, no records were kept by the school only by Manchester Education authority. Photo taken by the old canteen the top of Schoolhouse Lane.
